Art Transforms Elders- ART Program

Art Transforms- Elders Art Program

Classes are taught for two hours every week and students learn to draw. They are instructed at their own pace, in color theory, perspective, composition etc. The Art Mentors at Art Transforms will give the elders an opportunity to develop and explore their creative abilities as a form of play and self-expression in order to enhance their quality of life.

The core emphasis of the classwork will be on story, legacy, history and culture.  Beginning with the question “What does art mean to you?” clients will explore their past, present and future through art making and group conversation.  Elders/artists will explore their own personal and cultural histories through visual story telling.

Art Transforms will build a safe container so participants can connect, support, and bond with their peers through the creative process.  Conversation and dialog are also main components of this program.   Students are introduced to different media-acrylic, oil pastels, pen and ink, watercolor, and collage. The emphasis in the classroom is on art for arts sake and fun. The work created in the transformative art classes will be exhibited in public space in order to create a bridge between the Elders and the community at large.
